CR Chart

SOCIAL LINKS

JUNPEI IORI

THE MAGICIAN: RANK 10

His only maxed S. Link on the island, Junpei is his stalwart bro. Minato never has to doubt that they're still friends, and they always back each other up. Sometimes they don't see eye to eye -- and sometimes Minato is completely oblivious to Junpei's jealousy over his leadership position, and cool factor -- but the discrepancies are always smoothed over. They have an unshakeable bond, after all, and no timeline shenanigans or crises will interfere with that.

RAZPUTIN AQUATO

THE MAGICIAN: RANK 2

His roommate and a go-getter young kid, Minato has a good impression of Raz. He's willing to fight zombies with him, have ridiculous conversations, and also is very interested in gathering information about the island and exploring around. They get along well so far, but don't know much about each other.

ARADIA MEGIDO

THE HIGH PRIESTESS: RANK 1

Minato knew the last Aradia that was here, and was relatively good friends with her, so he's interested to get to know this one. So far their first conversation is going well, and he intends to look out for her if need be. Even if she wasn't important to Sollux, he'd like her on her own merits-- she's cheerful, well-meaning, and proactive, all things he likes. It's easy to talk to her and she's always open to whatever he has to say.

MITSURU KIRIJO

THE EMPRESS: RANK 4

Back home, his rank with her is much higher, but Mitsuru is from fairly early on in the timeline. Although he never dated her as she was dating Akihiko in his previous game, it still makes things somewhat awkward for him. Mitsuru is a private person who is slow to let people in. Minato feels as if he's already gotten to know her, already been through so much, including the Answer; yet he has to build his relationship from the ground up with her here. That said, he tries not to let on about it. He's happy to have her around and trusts her as much as ever, and is patient about her slowly returning that feeling.

KARKAT VANTAS

THE EMPEROR: RANK 3

Minato is interested in getting to know Karkat better. He's not one to be put off by any criticisms or vitriol, and in fact barely reacts to it, so his sheer persistence and levelheadedness tends to result in fairly practical discussions with him. Plus his sense of humor, very flat and rarely seen, is coaxed out when Karkat tries to get a reaction out of him. He saved a copy of his romance guide, and has so far approved of him as a leader; Karkat seems to have a balanced view of things, with an eye for less murdering if possible. (Something Minato is also very concerned about.) If given the opportunity, he'll poke his nose into his business a lot more.

SHINJIRO ARAGAKI

HIEROPHANT: RANK 7

As he's been dead for about two years at home, Minato never expected to see Shinjiro here, though he probably should've given the way the island works. But he was already present when he arrived, and since then he's proven to be as reliable and competent as he had when he was part of SEES. A teammate, Minato automatically keeps track of him and asks for his opinion on things, and has trusted him with the knowledge that he died to seal Nyx. They mutually agreed to keep this a secret from Mitsuru. While their friendship isn't explicitly stated, both of them being reserved people, it's very much real and a silent undercurrent to their conversations. Minato trusts him implicitly, and is more willing to tell him the things he ordinarily keeps to himself than to almost anyone else, precisely because Shinjiro is liable to take it calmly and not push. In return, he doesn't press about his issue with his Persona, just offers to help him however he can. He still calls him senpai, though.

YUKARI TAKEBA

THE LOVERS: RANK 7 (DROPPED)

Yukari is very important to Minato. The version he knows at home was one of his closest friends, and that was mostly carried through when she was here. She was brutally murdered on the network as part of a mysterious plot that was never resolved, and he waited for her to revive at the shrine, silently walking her back and offering her comfort. He feels a kinship and closeness to her that he rarely expresses. He knows how much his death affected her, and still feels guilty for it in the back of his mind. Although she was dropped, her time on the island is something that stays with him, particularly her murder.

DAVE STRIDER

CHARIOT: RANK 4

A relationship partly comprised of extremely deadpan jokes and otherwise of overly forward emotional prodding, Minato and Dave have a funny dynamic. There's an interplay of pushing and backing off, of understanding each other almost too well because in some ways they are extremely similar-- maybe too similar. And in other ways they aren't alike at all. Minato is still getting a handle on him, but is starting to get a better idea of when to push and when to make a joke. He intends to keep going with this and befriend him if it's remotely possible.

VRISKA SERKET

WHEEL OF FORTUNE: RANK 6

Originally they met with Minato saving her from some attacking ghosts, and Vriska was immediately skeptical that anyone could possibly be so blithely good-willed as to do that for a perfect stranger without gain. But after a while (stealing smuppets, fighting off monsters, and other adventures included) she's gotten the idea that it's just who he is, and is more accepting. For his part, Minato finds Vriska incredibly easy to spend time with. She's simple to make happy, and he applies flattery and obediently does what she wants whenever prompted. On a deeper level, he realizes there is more going on with her than she's let on, and he wants to find out what that is. He thinks she needs support, and he intends to be that, unconditionally.

ΨIIONIIC

THE HANGED MAN: RANK 3

One of the few adult trolls Minato has ever met, the Ψiioniic has left an impression on him as someone who doesn't feel he's entirely part of reality. Minato can empathize with that feeling, and wants to help him however he can. At the same time, the Helmsman -- which is the name he knows him under -- is someone with a sort of quiet reserve that he completely respects. He doesn't look down on him or assume he needs his help at all, he just wants to give it. He's been nothing but supportive of both Sollux and Aradia as far as he's seen, which instantly endeared him to Minato.

ERIDAN AMPORA

THE DEVIL: RANK 1

This is the third time Eridan's been here, and while Minato hasn't spoken to him much each time, he is definitely intrigued. If for no other reason than that he seems to piss off Sollux so effectively, even to the extent that Sollux warned him off the last time he was here. But Minato is undaunted, especially as with this incarnation, Eridan has a lot of memories of past CR that don't mesh with what Sollux and Feferi remember. They seem to think he's dangerous and/or crazy, and Minato wants to get to the bottom of it. Slowly, of course. Patiently. He isn't afraid, he doesn't want to push, but... he does want to know, and he'd be okay if that ended with him being Eridan's friend in the process.

SOLLUX CAPTOR

THE TOWER: RANK 9

When he arrived on the island, Minato was still wrapped up in the thoughts of people he'd left behind, and therefore wasn't expecting to befriend Sollux at all. It was gradual: they talked several times, and most of the time Minato managed to cheer him up, which he came to understand was a relatively rare event. Eventually the reverse became true as well, and Sollux cheered him up, which is just as rare. It's hard to say what exactly the defining factor is in why they bonded, but when Sollux asked him to type in blue, he said yes; and when he asked him to be his moirail, he said yes. He takes the position very seriously, and got some advice from Feferi on what it means. He tends to be caught off guard whenever the moirailing is reciprocated, because Minato is just not used to people trying to take care of him, in any respect... but he allows it, is grateful for it, because Sollux is the person he can tell things he can't tell other people. Everyone else, in particular his teammates, are people he feels he needs to protect and look out for. This is one of the very few times in his life that Minato has felt he might be able to let that be returned. All that given, most of the time they don't have such sappy conversations. It tends to be more teasing and dealing with the latest island crisis and goofy shenanigans.

GAMZEE MAKARA

THE MOON: RANK 8

It used to be that Minato had rather conflicting feelings on Gamzee. He confronts his rather firm morals in one of the few places they are unbending-- unjust violence, and killing. From the first Minato made the point that he wasn't scared of Gamzee, and just wants to be his friend, and he holds true to that: he doesn't blame him for anything he's done, not really. More than anything, he's concerned. When he's chill and willing to hang out, to do mundane things like talk and play video games and bake brownies, he's one of the most relaxing people to be around. Yet beneath everything Minato can't put to rest his inner conflict over wanting to be his friend, but being unable to understand someone that kills others for so little reason. He can't understand, as much as he tries, why it happens; and it's extra difficult when he's killed people Minato knows and cares about. Recently this has included himself and Feferi while Gamzee was under the influence of drugged water for an event, and oddly this has settled his opinion somewhat for the better, because he can't blame him in any way for what happened. This ended in cuddling and a much greater sympathy for him, and now Minato is a lot more at ease. He really does want to be his friend, he doesn't need to change him; he has faith in him, despite everything, and he's too loyal a person to rescind that.

FEFERI PEIXES

THE SUN: RANK 6

One of the most cheerful people he's ever met, Feferi puts Minato at ease immensely. She's always proven trustworthy, always been ready to help or explain, and most important of all shares his feelings on friendship. (That's it's the best thing ever, of course.) They make for a natural contrast, him drywall and her excitable, and their basically good-willed and easy-going natures lets them get along well. They don't know each other that well, exactly, but there is undoubtedly a connection and it's probably only a matter of time before they do. Not to mention she's his favorite accomplice in go-cheer-up-Sollux missions.

KAWORU NAGISA

JUDGEMENT: RANK 2

In his old game, Kaworu was hands down one of the most important people in Minato's life. He was part of SEES for the last few months before Nyx, and lived in their dorm after his world was destroyed post-canon, along with Asuka. They went through a lot together. Kaworu watched him martyr himself to save the world, and of course understood; and when Minato came back to life, the two of them got an apartment with Asuka and were living together ever since. But obviously the one here doesn't know any of that, and is from so far back in the timeline from Minato's perspective that he's almost a totally different person. It's not disorienting to Minato, who's come to expect this by now, but it is disappointing. He's as willing to rebuild the relationship as ever, but he has to admit that he misses his roommate that would know exactly what to say to him without really saying anything at all.

MINAKO ARISATO

THE WORLD: RANK 5

It's him as a girl from a different world, and they're bizarrely similar in some ways and not at all alike in others. He feels badly for her that none of their teammates remember her, and tries to include her as much as he can. Minato has no problem whatsoever sharing leadership with her, and she's been unfailingly dependable in that respect, always willing to push forward with a smile. But he knows she's hiding as many repressed secrets as he is, can tell that that part of them is the same, and he's disinclined to go too much deeper just yet. Doing that would mean looking at those same parts of himself, and that's not something he's willing, or ready, to do.
